Punjab: Tension in Morinda after sacrilege attempt - VIDEO

Chandigarh: Tension prevailed in Morinda town of Punjab's Rupnagar district after a video of an incident of sacrilege in a Gurudwara surfaced in social media on Monday.
 
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann tweeted that the culprit won't be spared even as politicians across party lines condemned the incident.
 
According to sources, a man in Gurudwara Shri Kotwali Sahib attempted sacrilege. He has been arrested.

As the video of the incident went viral, a crowd of angry people staged a Dharna at Kanore Chowk. SHO Harsh Gautam tried to pacify them. Later, agitators gathered at the police station and demanded that the accused be handed over to them.
 
Police have appealed to people to maintain peace and harmony.
 
A case has been registered against the accused under section 295A, 307, 323 and 506 of IPC and further investigation was on, police said. (UNI)
