Kolkata: Hard to believe that two states of India have just fought out a bitter battle over the sweetest of all sweets! Rasgulla!
The battle lines were drawn between West Bengal and Odisha, and both states claimed that Rasgulla owes its origin to them!

Odisha Government even went on to do Gio Tagging of Rasgulla to claim its advent!

Odisha's claim was based upon the Kheer Mohan sweet, which is offered to Lord Jagannath in Puri.

But Bengal maintained that there are notable differences between Kheer Mohan and Rasgulla and you can't mistake one for the other!

Finally Court gave its verdict in the favor of Bengal and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee termed it as a Sweet News!

The legend goes that Rasgulla was invented by a Kolkata sweetmeat seller called Nobin Chandra Das in 19th century and this sweet has held a speical place in Bengali cuisine ever since!

Anyway, just leave all the bitter battles aside and relish a mouthful of sweet delicate Rasgulla! (WD)
