The tragic event occurred on July 24 in Southeast Sulawesi province's Muna Regency in Indonesia. A man allegedly stabbed his friend to death following an argument over the classic riddle.
As reported by The Independent, the suspect, identified as DR, had invited his friend, Kadir Markus, for a drink. After a few rounds of drinks, DR posed the riddle to Markus. "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?" DR was quoted as asking.
The discussion escalated into a heated debate. Attempting to de-escalate the situation, Markus decided to go back to his home. However, DR, armed with a badik - a traditional dagger of southern Sulawesi's coastal tribes like the Bugis and the Makassarese - chased Markus on his bike and then on foot, eventually attacking him at least 15 times.
Despite the efforts of bystanders who rushed Markus to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
