Mumbai: Accused persons lodged in Taloja prison for their alleged involvement in Bollywood superstar Salman Khan firing case have been shifted to the high security cell of the prison after two accused in the case claimed a threat to their lives from the gang members of fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, sources in Prison said.

They further said that these accused have been shifted to high security cell and were segregated from other inmates in jail.

Vicky Gupta and Sagar Pal, who are members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, were arrested in the case on April 14 from Gujarat and are currently lodged in Taloja prison.

The first letter was written by Vicky Gupta’s brother Sonu Gupta, a resident of Majharia in Bihar’s West Champaran district. The second letter was sent by Sagar Pal’s brother Rahul Pal, who lives in the same area.

In the letters, they claimed that when they met their brothers in the prison, they were told that the duo could be targeted by members of the Dawood Ibrahim gang who are lodged in the same prison.

Vicky Gupta's lawyer said, "The victim (Salman Khan) has known relations with a gangster, perhaps he wants to get the accused killed, this is the allegation of the accused (Vicky Gupta and Sagar Pal). We've written to the Central government, Maharashtra and Bihar governments for their protection."

The letters alleged that the duo would meet the same fate as their co-accused Anuj Thapan (32), who died in police custody. He was arrested in the case from Punjab along with another person on April 26. Thapan was found dead on May 1 inside the washroom of the Crime Branch’s lockup. (Inputs from UNI)
