Skyrocketing daily nCOV cases cross 1.25 Lakh mark, 685 succumbs

New Delhi: India on Thursday reported 1,26,789 new cases of COVID-19 during the past 24 hours, the highest ever daily surge since the outbreak of the pandemic, the data by the Union Health Ministry stated on Thursday.
With this, the country's overall Covid tally now stands at 1,29,28,574.The death toll mounted to 1,66,862 with 685 more fatalities in the past day.
 
According to the Union Health Ministry, the active cases rose by 66,846 to stand at 9,10,319. It is now 6.59 per cent of the total caseload.
 
The past 24 hours saw 59,258 people recovering from the deadly virus, taking the total recovery count to 1,18,51,393, which is 92.11 per cent of the case tally. The fatality rate stood at 1.30 per cent.
 
Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that a total of 25,26,77,379 samples have been tested so far for coronavirus. Out of this, 12,37,781 were tested in the past one day.
 
On the vaccination front, a total of 9,01,98,673 people have been vaccinated across the country till now with 29,79,292 vaccinations administered in the past 24 hours.

Maharashtra remains the major contributer to rising nCOV cases
 
Meanwhile, the past 24 hours saw 59,907 fresh cases of COVID-19 being reported from across the state, this is the highest single day spike seen by the state till not. With the addition of these new cases the total number of infections in the state have climbed to 31,73,261.The state also registered 322 more deaths, taking the overall death toll to 56,652.
 
Meanwhile, a total of 30,296 patients recovered and were discharged during the past 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 26,13,627 across the state.
 
The state's recovery rate currently stands at 82.98 per cent and the fatality rate is 1.83 per cent.At present there are 5,01,561 active patients across the state undergoing treatment at different COVID-19 centres and hospitals, added the health officials.
 
It may be noted that in view of rising number of cases, the state government has imposed strict restrictions and week end curfew across the state under the initiative of ' break the chain '.
 
Eight districts of Maharashtra's Marathwada region registered 6,179 cases of COVID-19 during the past 24 hours, health authorities informed on Thursday.The region also saw 91 fatalities due to the virus during the same duration of time.The region has been adversely affected due to the pandemic since the last over one and half months.
