5 Manipur Police, BSF personnel injured in attack by Kuki militants, CM Biren Singh assures action
, Tuesday, 2 January 2024 (16:53 IST)
Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Tuesday announced that the state government will take up appropriate action against all those who were attacking security personnel and civilians.

Violence erupted with the arrival of New Year with four civilians killed at Thoubal district by unknown armed persons and attack on Manipur Police and BSF personnel at Moreh, a border town.

During the attack by suspected Kuki militants, seven Manipur Police personnel and a jawan of BSF were injured at Moreh in Tengnoupal district in the last 48 hours.

The Chief Minister visited two hospitals where all the injured persons both Police and civilians, were undergoing treatment. Singh also spoke with the families of the injured personnel.

Pointing at the intensity of attack during which the personnel were injured, Singh said that it has proved that the weapons used by the terrorists were sophisticated weapons. The Central forces and State forces are countering them. He added search operations and combing operations are going on and reinforcements have also been sent.

He also expressed a firm commitment to the people that the government will not succumb to such threats and pressure and will take necessary measures to counter such terrorist activities.

Stating that Manipur is passing through a very crucial period, Singh questioned the rationality in inciting hatred and fighting among the people instead of unitedly facing those who are trying hard to break the State apart.

The CM further reiterated his stance to come out strongly against anyone taking the law into their own hands, and said that the government will not remain silent and take action. These elements should be held responsible, if the government takes any stringent action including reimposition of the unwanted AFSPA.

He called on the people to identify the enemies of Manipur and to face them unitedly.

Urging people against taking the law into their own hands, Singh asked them to inform or complain to the concerned authorities if they find anything suspicious so that the concerned authorities can take necessary action. (UNI)
