Gonda (UP): At least two people have died and several passengers were feared injured when 10-12 boggies of Chandigarh-Dibrugarh express derailed near Mankapur railway station on Gonda-Gorakhpur railway section on Thursday, police sources said.
Police sources said that the incident took place around 2.30 pm when 10-12 bogies of the Chandigarh-Dirugarh express derailed five km before Mankapur railway station.
According to eyewitnesses the passengers somehow came out of the derailed coaches, they said.
Police sources said around 20 passengers have sustained injury in the accident.
The rescue and relief team has been sent to the spot.
Efforts to take out the passengers are continuing with the help of local resources, official sources said.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognisance of the train accident in Gonda district. He has directed the officials to reach the spot immediately and expedite the relief work. He has also directed to ensure proper treatment of the injured.
Yogi has directed the district administration officials to provide all possible help.
On the directives of the CM, all hospitals, CHCs, PHCs of nearby districts were put on alert mode. SDRF team was also instructed to reach the spot and expedite the relief work.
