Army camp attacked in Jammu, Jawan martyred

Jammu: An Army Jawan attained martyrdom as a group of terrorists on Saturday attacked the Army camp here while all schools near the site have been closed."One of the injured Jawans succumbed to his injuries while a girl and three other Jawans are injured in the attack," official sources here said.They said that the terrorists, who are believed to be four to five, on Saturday morning at around 0450 hours attacked the Sunjuwan Brigade Army camp here on the city outskirts.

Pertinent to mention here that Sunjuwan Brigade camp is just 5 to 6 kilometres away from the heart of the Jammu city."The operation is still on," said an official adding that all schools close to the attack site has been closed as a preventive measure.Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu Range said that the militants who carried out an attack on the army camp at Sujwan in Jammu district have been trapped in one of the buildings.

"At around 0455 hours suspicious movement was noticed by the sentry and his bunker was fired upon, the fire was retaliated," he said, adding that the number of militants was not known, but they've been cornered in one of the family quarters.Earlier, official sources had said that three to four fidayeen carried out the attack by opening indiscriminate fire and lobbed grenades inside the camp situated in Sujwan area.

"All the attackers later entered inside the camp of 36 Brigade and engaged the troops in a gun battle”, they said.Soon after the attack, reinforcement of army’s special forces and SOG rushed to the spot and cordoned off the whole area amid fierce gunfight, they said.However, the national highway, which was closed in view of terror attack was thrown open for the traffic later while the security forces cordoned the area of terror site.(UNI)
