New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday termed Enforcement Directorate (ED) summons as 'illegal stating that these were only to keep him away from the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Addressing the media here today, Kejriwal said, "I will cooperate if the ED summons is legal. Even my advocates have told me that these summonses are illegal, so how can I appear before the agency?"

Questioning the timings of the summons, Kejriwal said, "Eight months back, the CBI had called me, and I had appeared and replied to all their queries. But now these summonses are being sent at a time when the Lok Sabha elections are near, and this shows the BJP wants to keep me away from campaigning".

He said for the last two years several raids have been conducted by "agencies of BJP", but not a single penny has been found and the "BJP is saying that there has been a liquor scam worth crore of rupees".

"The BJP is not taking any action against its leaders who are facing corruption charges. And all charges are exonerated when any corrupt leader joins the BJP," Kejriwal alleged.

"Today, Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh and Vijay Nair are in jail not because they are corrupt but because they refused to join the BJP," the Delhi Chief minister said.

Calling himself as the "most honest" man, Kejriwal said that throughout his life, if anything he has earned then it is his "honesty". Adding that the BJP is only targeting the honest leaders of the opposition parties.

It may be mentioned that ED had served three summonses to the Delhi Chief minister to question in the Delhi Excise policy case.

The first summon was issued on November 1, followed by the second summon on December 21 and the third one January 3. (UNI)
