A record 4,329 deaths & 2,63,533 nCoV cases registered in past 24 hours

New Delhi: India saw record 4,329 new fatalities due to the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of deaths in the country to 2,78,719, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Tuesday.
India's daily COVID-19 tally was below the three-lakh mark for the second day in a row, as it recorded 2,63,533 new cases, pushing the total number of infections in the country to 2,52,28,996.
 
The active caseload in the country is 33,53,765 comprising 13.29 per cent of the total infections while 2,15,96,512 people have recovered from disease so far amounting 85.60 per cent of recovery rate. The case fatality rate stands at 1.10 per cent.
 
Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that a total of 31,82,92,881 samples have been tested so far for coronavirus. Out of this, 18,69,223 were tested in the past one day.

Maharashtra reported the highest 1000 deaths in the past 24 hours, followed Karnataka (476), Delhi (340), Tamil Nadu (335), Uttar Pradesh (271), Uttarakhand (223), Punjab (191), Rajasthan (157), Chhattisgarh (149), West Bengal (147), Haryana (114) and Andhra Pradesh (109).On Monday, the country had recorded 2,81,386 new Covid-19 cases and 4,106 deaths.

Meanwhile, during the past 24 hours, 26,616 fresh cases of COVID-19 were recorded across the 26,616 fresh cases of COVID-19state, taking the total number of infections to 54,05,068.
 
The state also registered 516 more deaths, taking the death toll to 82,486.Meanwhile, a record 54,068 patients recovered in the state, taking the total number of recoveries to 48,74,582
 
The state's recovery rate currently goes up to 90.19 per cent and the fatality rate is 1.53 per cent.At present, there are 4,45,495 active cases across the state undergoing treatment at different COVID-19 centres and hospitals, added the health authorities.
 
In view of the rising number of cases, strict restrictions has been extended up to May 31.(UNI)
