Man booked for making fake video of father of victim in Asaram case viral

Shahjahanpur (UP): A case has been lodged for making a fake video of the father of the rape victim in self-proclaimed Godman Asaram Bapu viral on social media, a senior police officer said here on Thursday.
 
Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashok Kumar Meena said that the father of the victim met him on Wednesday and gave a complaint. "On the basis of the complaint a base has been lodged at Kotwali police station. In his complaint The victim's father has alleged that Asaram keeps spreading false propaganda against him on social media and YouTube through his followers," he said.
 
Referring to the case, he said that on Tuesday a man named Anil Sharma made a video viral on social media in which claiming to be the victim's father he could be heard saying, 'forgive me, my daughter has levelled false allegations'.
 
The SP said that a police picket is already deployed at the residence of the victim. "Besides, the victim's father has expressed apprehension of threat to his life on which a gunner has also been provided. The officers and Kotwali police have been directed to monitor security from time to time," he said.
 
It may be noted that Asaram Bapu (81) raped a 16-year-old minor from Shahjahanpur in his Jodhpur ashram in 2013. "He was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2018 in this case and since then he is in jail.
