Bhubaneswar: A Doctor of the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack was arrested and later sent to jail on Tuesday for allegedly outraging the modesty of two women patients.
Police sources said the doctor identified as a senior resident doctor in the Cardiology Department of SCB Medical College and Hospital was arrested after a FIR was lodged against him in the Mangalabag Police station.
Agitated medical students assaulted the doctor after knowing the incident and he was admitted to the isolation ward of the hospital for treatment.
Soon after the doctor was discharged from the hospital, the police arrested him and forwarded to the court which rejected his bail petition and sent him to judicial custody.
Meanwhile , the state government had constituted a three member committee to enquire into the allegation regarding alleged misconduct by a DM cardiology resident doctor.
The committee comprises Prof (Dr) Santosh Mishra,Director of Medical Education and Training (DMET), Sudhansu Sekhar Mishra, the Superintendent of SCB Medical College and Hospital who is also incharge Dean and Principal and Joint DMET Prof (Dr) Roma Ratta.
A notification on the formation of the committee by the Health and Family Welfare Department said the committee will undertake a detailed inquiry into the allegation and recommend appropriate action to the government.
