New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday rejected the mercy petition of Nirbhaya convict Vinay Sharma, one of the four men on death row, seeking clemency.

The Presidential rejection comes a day after a Delhi court postponed the execution of all convicts after they sought a stay on their hanging.

Vinay, along with Mukesh Kumar Singh, Pawan Gupta, and Akshay Thakur, who have been convicted for the February 16 gangrape-and-murder of a 23-year-old medical student, were earlier ordered to be hanged on February 1 at 0600 hrs.

Advocate AP Singh, counsel for Pawan, Vinay and Akshay, claimed that their legal remedies were not yet exhausted, postponing indefinitely the hanging date. (UNI)
