Sheena Bora murder case: 'Untraceable' skeletal remains of body found at CBI office in Delhi

Mumbai: A Mumbai court hearing the Sheena Bora murder case saw some dramatic scenes on Thursday with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) claiming for the first time that it has in its possessions some skeletal remains of the murder victim.

A Special Judge was told by the probe agency that it would be wrong to claim that skeletal remains of Sheena Bora were untraceable as some of these were kept in a safe custody in Delhi.

Twentyfour-year-old Sheena Bora was allegedly murdered in 2012 by her mother Indrani Mukerjea and others.

The issue of alleged disappearance of Bora’s skeletal remains and CBI’s revelation about the evidence in its custody came up in the court after it received a letter, alleging a conspiracy by an anatomy professor to destroy the vital evidence.

The letter alleging wrongdoings by CBI witness Zeba Khan, who is professor of anatomy department at JJ Hospital, was written by her estranged brother, Naveed Khan, who is involved in a bitter dispute with her.

Naveed Khan alleged that Zeba indulged in corrupt practices in the case by destroying the skeletal remains and, in exchange, collected wealth with which she bought property in the Gulf.

He claimed he wanted to share this crucial information with the court after coming across news items about missing skeletal remains in the Sheena Bora murder.

The letter created an uproar during the hearing and the special court asked the CBI to clear its stand for further course of action.

Besides, the court specifically asked the prosecution if they would make an inquiry on the allegations stated in the letter.

The CBI prosecutor clarified that the bones were traced but were not being relied upon as evidence in the trial.

With this statement of CBI, the allegations against Zeba were therefore found to be irrelevant.
