Bengaluru: In a gruesome murder case, a 29-year-old woman was found dead, her body dismembered and stored in a fridge at a rented house in Vinayakanagar, Vyalikaval area on Saturday, sources said on Monday.
The victim has been identified as Mahalakhmi, who worked at Mantri Mall on Sampige Road.
Local residents alerted authorities after noticing a foul smell emanating from the house. Upon inspection, police discovered the body cut into over 30 pieces. Authorities believe the crime took place 4-5 days ago.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Shekhar Tekkan and officials from the Vyalikaval police station visited the crime scene and cordoned off the area. The accused remains at large as the investigation intensifies.
To control the crowd, police restricted access to the road leading to the house. Curious onlookers had begun gathering shortly after word of the murder spread.
Neighbors reported that a couple had been living in the house for the past three months, but little was known about them.
Satish Kumar, Additional Police Commissioner, commented, “The couple was residing in a 1-BHK house in Vinayakanagar. The murder likely occurred several days ago. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team is en route, while the fingerprint and dog squads have already begun their work. Initial information suggests the couple came from another state but had settled in Karnataka. Further details will emerge as the investigation progresses.”
Police are working to track down the suspect as the investigation continues.
