Agartala: This time around the election in remote Northeastern states attracted unprecedented attention never happened in the history of electoral politics in the region.
Newsx- Jan Ki Baat, Axis India News 24 and C voters-- all Delhi based media organisations-- have predicted a clear mandate for BJP and IPFT combine in Tripura whereas in Meghalaya and Nagaland it gave Nationalist Peoples Party and Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) both all of the saffron brigade an edge.
However, a local digital media organisation Tripurainfo.com which carried out its own post poll survey in Tripura predicted CPI-M to win 40-49 seats in the state.Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland recorded 85 per cent, 84 Per cent and 75 per cent polling. Polling was more or less peaceful leaving some sporadic violence in all the three states.
Fate of longest serving chief minister of CPI-M in Tripura Manik Sarkar and in Meghalaya two time Congress Chief Minister Mukul Sangma will be decided while in Nagaland Neiphu Rio, NDPP an ally of BJP, the frontrunner for Chief Minister’s post has already been elected unopposed.
In all the three states polling was held in 59 assembly segments out of 60. In Meghalaya polling in Willamnagar constituency in South Garo Hills has to be deferred due to the death of the NCP candidate Jonathone Sangma who was killed in a militant attack. In Tripura polling one constituency was not taken up due to death of a candidate.(UNI)
