Train traffic was disrupted when several coaches of Ahmedabad bound Sabarmati Express from Varanasi derailed near Govindpuri railway station in Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh) in the wee hours of Saturday, railway sources said.According to official sources, coaches of the Sabarmati Express suddenly derailed one after another between Govindpuri and Bhimsen stations at around 2:30 am late at night. However, no railway passenger was seriously injured in this accident.The passengers were brought to Kanpur Central by bus and special train late at night, from where they were being sent towards their destination.
District Magistrate of Kanpur Rakesh Kumar Singh said that around 22 coaches of the Sabarmati Express derailed while it was en route to Jhansi from Kanpur."There was no casualty, and none of the passengers sustained serious injuries. Few passengers sustained minor injuries," he said.
According to reports, the incident took place after the engine of the train hit an obstacle on the track.Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw wrote on X, "The engine of the Sabarmati Express (Varanasi to Ahmedabad) hit an object placed on the track and derailed near Kanpur at 02:35 am today. Sharp hit marks are observed. Evidence is protected. IB and UP police are also working on it."
He also said that there were no injuries to passengers or staff. Another train has been arranged for passengers for their onward journey to Ahmedabad.Railway officials claim that traffic on this railway line will be restored by this evening.
