In a shocking incident, a woman was reportedly striped and paraded on the road by some BJP workers in West Bengal’s Nandigram. The victim alleged that she was made to go through this horror because she quit the BJP and joined Trinamool Congress.

BJP booth president Tapas Das was arrested on Saturday following a complaint by the woman.

The incident took place in Panchanantala of Gokulnagar Gram Panchayat.

As per FIR, on Friday night when victim was sleeping with daughter at her home, about thirty to forty people broke into her house and dragged her into the village, stripped her naked and beat her up. They also tried to kill her but fled as cops arrived."

"We were once with BJP but joined Trinamool before the recent elections. A few days ago, they beat me up and molested me in the village after which I had filed a police complaint. Friday's incident was an attempt to force me to withdraw the complaint," she added.

BJP's Nandigram I Block convener Abhijit Maiti said: "We condemn the attack on the woman... However, this incident has no connection with BJP. There is a conspiracy to falsely implicate us."

Nandigram TMC functionary Sheikh Sufiyan said: "The woman's crime was that she and her husband had left BJP and joined Trinamool. They were pressured to rejoin the BJP, and when they refused, she was stripped naked and brutally beaten. We demand strict punishment for the miscreants."

TMC delegation would visit Nandigram on Sunday, to meet the victim.
