Female District judge commits suicide in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh

A 27-year-old female judge hanged herself and committed suicide at her official residence in Sadar Kotwali area of Badaun district here in Uttar Pradesh, a senior police officer said here on Saturday.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Alok Priyadarshi said that Jytosana Rai was posted as Civil Judge (Junior Division) in the district court. "On Saturday morning when Jyotsana did not reach the court her colleagues called her, but she did not respond," he said.

He said that when the deceased's colleagues reached her residence on the first floor of the Judges Colony they found her bedroom locked from inside. "When the police reached the spot and broke the door the body of the judge was found hanging from the fan. A suicide note has been recovered from the spot," he said.

The SSP said that Jyotsana, who hailed from Mau district, was posted in Badaun court from April 29, 2023. "Prior to this she was posted in Ayodhya as Judicial Magistrate. A handwritten suicide note along with other documents have been recoevred from her room which will prove important in solving the suicide mystery," he said.

He said that the body has been sent for the post-mortem examination and the family members of the female judge have also been informed.(UNI)<>
