Kerala: Mother drowns 3-day-old baby boy in bucket of water, buries newborn in house compound in Malappuram, arrested

Malappuram: Tanur police have arrested a woman for allegedly murdering her three-day-old baby boy and burying him near the well of the house compound at Ottumpuram near Tanur in the district.
 
A police team, led by Tanur DySP V V Benny, exhumed the body of a new born boy with presence of Tirur tahasildar S Sheeja and sent it to Kozhikode Medical College for post-mortem to determine exact cause of the death.
 
Police said they arrested Jumailath (29) of Ottumpuram near Tanur in this connection and sent her to judicial custody for 14 days.
 
She was separated from her husband in Kozhikode for a year and lived with three daughters and her relatives at her own house.
 
She gave birth to a child on February 23 at Kozhikode Medical College hospital and was discharged on February 26.
 
She told police that she first drowned the child in a bucket of water and then buried him near the well in anticipation of shame and defamation.
 
Neighbours then lodged a complaint of the missing child and led to arrest of the mother.
