Nottingham: A blistering knock by unbeaten Mushfiqur Rahim (102 off 97 balls) went in vain, as defending champions Australia thrashed Bangladesh by 41 runs in the World Cup match here at Trent Bridge on Thursday.
After opting to bat first, Australia, with the help of David Warner's majestic 166 runs off 147 balls, the highest individual score of World Cup 2019, ripped Bangladesh's bowling to shreds and finished at 381/5 in 50 overs.

Bangladesh paid a heavy price for dropping Warner in the 5th over on 10 in MashrafeMortaza's spell, where Sabbir dropped him at backward point. The quality of batsmanship was outstanding from Australia, especially David Warner, whose courageous knock was laced with 14 fours and 5 sixes.

Australia got off to a solid start as Skipper Aaron Finch (53) continued his good run in World Cup 2019.Thereafter, Usman Khawaja played a sensible 72-ball 89-run knock, with the help of 10 fours. After Warner, Maxwell came and along with Khawaja, added another quick 39 runs for third wicket, but then Maxwell, after scoring a quick 32 off 10 (2 fours, 3 sixes) was run out in the 47th over by Rubel Hossain.Marcus Stoinis (17) and Alex Carey (11) remained unbeaten for Australia.(UNI)
