Hit by car, 9 Sambo players injured in Jammu

Jammu: At least nine players of Sambo representing Punjab team suffered injuries after they were hit by a rashly driven car outside Bhagwati Nagar based Indoor Sports Complex, police said on Saturday.

Police said that late on Friday evening, the players of Punjab team, who had come to participate in the National Sambo Championship underway at Bhagwati Nagar Indoor Sports Complex, suffered injuries when they were hit by a car while they were waiting to board a bus outside the venue.

"Out of nine, one player was critically injured and he was referred to the hospital in Punjab," police said.

They said that the parents on getting the information this morning reached Jammu and on their consent, injured players left for their hometown in the neighbouring state.

"The car driver identified as Priyanshu Singh of Phallian Mandal, Jammu was in inebriated condition and was immediately taken into the custody," police said.

A case has been registered and cognizance into the incident has been taken, said police. (UNI)
