IPL 2022: I don't keep track of goals: Jasprit Bumrah on his sensational 5 wicket haul

Mumbai: Commenting on his sensational 5 wicket haul for 10 runs, Mumbai Indians' Jasprit Bumrah said he doesn't keep track of figures or goals, but aims to stick to the process.

"I don't keep track of figures or goals, my aim is to stick to the process. Sometimes you bowl well but don't get wickets. Can't get desperate. Just want to contribute in whatever way I can," he said at the post-match presentation ceremony here.

Bumrah returned to his aggressive best as he picked up his first-ever five-wicket haul in the IPL. His spell of 5/10 helped MI restrict Kolkata Knight Riders for 165 runs in their first innings.

"It is always a good feeling to contribute but the important thing is for the team to win," he said adding that the team had the chance to win, but couldn't get over the line.

On losing nine matches out of 11 this IPL, Bumrah said, "It's about rectifying our mistakes and doing better next season."

MI star players haven't been in top form. Even Bumrah had a bad start to the season as he picked up just 5 wickets in 10 games. The likes of Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard too struggled throughout the season for runs.

Meanwhile, skipper Rohit said it was a great effort from the bowling unit and Bumrah was special, but expressed his disappointment with the batting performance.

"Great effort from Bumrah and the entire bowling unit. Batsmen let us down. It's been that kind of a season where both departments weren't consistent enough. It is something that we wanted to improve today but couldn't do it," he said.

Asked if it was difficult to bat on the pitch, he said that was not the case especially because MI was playing their fourth game here and knew what to expect. The team did not get partnerships which are needed to chase totals successfully, Rohit added.

Asked if MI could have restricted KKR to a lower total, Rohit disagreed by saying that MI came back strongly after KKR had put on 100 runs in 11 overs. (UNI)
