Imphal: Suspected Kuki militants launched fresh attacks in Jiribam district on Wednesday using bombs and sophisticated weapons. Police said security personnel rushed to the area to investigate.
Three houses were completely destroyed in the Borobekra area of the district. The houses reportedly belonged to Biramahol, Chaoren and Rajesh.
The suspected militants reportedly first lobbed bombs and later burnt down the houses, which were "completely gutted".
People of the district were planning to stage a protest against attacks by Kuki militants. A large populace belonging to various sections have also fled the district.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh recently asked Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh and DGP Rajiv Singh to submit a report for failure to take action even though the CM office had informed them about 200 Kuki militants planning to attack Jiribam.
The Imphal-Jiribam highway is mostly controlled by Meitei and Naga people with few Kuki villages in between. Imphal to Mao and Imphal to Moreh highway is not safe for travel as it is controlled by Kuki militants.
