Manipur: Kuki militants attack security forces with rocket-propelled grenades, sniper rifles in Moreh; Police commando killed, another seriously injured

Imphal: A Manipur Police commando identified as Somorjit was killed, and another was seriously injured in a series of attacks at Moreh town, Tengnoupal district, on Wednesday by suspected Kuki miscreants.

Heavily armed Kuki miscreants launched attacks at various security posts at Moreh.

The Kuki miscreants used rocket-propelled grenades, sniper rifles, and heavy machinery, which destroyed several buildings occupied by security personnel.

Some personnel of the Assam Rifles stationed at Moreh were also stopped from moving around at Moreh by the armed miscreants.

Earlier, an SDPO of Manipur Police was shot dead by a Kuki militant, and after his arrest, Kuki miscreants warned the Manipur government to release him with another militant.

Khongsai, who allegedly killed SDPO Anand on October 31, 2023, had served in the Assam Regiment earlier. The other Kuki militant nabbed by police, identified as Mate, was found to be the Treasurer of the BJP, Tengnoupal.

BJP Manipur said Mate is suspended from the party.

Moreh continued to be tense after Kuki militants attacked Meitei and destroyed all houses on May 3, 2023. All other communities except Kuki are now staying at Moreh.
