Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday provided agricultural land and residential lease along with letters for houses under the 'Mukhayamantri Awaas Yojana' to rehabilitate 63 displaced Hindu Bengali families from Bangladesh in 1970 when it was East Pakistan.
In a programme organized at Lok Bhavan, the Chief Minister said: “The long wait of 38 years is over. In 1970, 407 families came to India from East Pakistan. Some families were resettled in different parts of the country but 65 families kept waiting for resettlement.”
Of these 65, two families are nowhere to be found.
"After coming to power, our government worked on an action plan for the rehabilitation of the remaining 63 families who have been given two acres of land for farming and 200 meters for housing," he said. "Along with this, Rs 1.20 lakh has been given for construction of houses under the Mukhya Mantri Awas Yojana. Each house will also be provided a toilet.”
Adityanath distributed official letters for the rehabilitation to the refugee families. He launched a scathing attack on the previous governments, saying they were insensitive towards the deprived communities and neglected their development.
The Chief Minister directed the Revenue Department that the land given to these 63 families should be developed as a smart village with facilities of school and hospitals among others.
These families should also be linked with employment, making the women and men self-reliant. (UNI)
